A 3-day tour from Marrakech to Merzouga is mostly road, with the desert night as its reward. Here is how the days run, with the stop times the listings themselves publish.

Quick answer
The tour this site recommends does not publish a timetable. Its record names the highlights, the Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, the Atlas Mountains, a night in a Berber camp and sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes, and it says how the trip ends: a sunrise camel ride back to the village, breakfast, then the return to your hotel or riad in Marrakech.
For the hours in between, this page uses other tours on the same road whose records do list times, and it says which tour each figure belongs to. They are not the same product, but the road, the mountains and the dunes are the same, and the order of stops is close. Treat the times as a fair picture of the rhythm, not as a promise for any one departure.
One thing every listing agrees on: these are long days in a vehicle. A one-way tour to Fes even warns that its trip involves long hours of driving and may not suit people with back problems or motion sickness. If that is you, sit near the front, take the breaks seriously and keep water and a snack within reach.
Three days
Day 1, 7:00 AM
The food safari starts at 7:00 AM on day 1.
Day 1, midday
A visit of 2.5 hours on the private-tent tour.
Night 1
Boumalne Dades on one tour, the Kelaa M'Gouna area on another.
Day 2
40 minutes in Tinghir and 20 at the Todra River on one tour.
Night 2
Sunset camel ride, dinner and drumming at camp.
Day 3, about 8:00 PM
The food safari lists its return around 8:00 PM.
Pickup comes early. The food safari, a big-selling 3-day safari with food, starts at 7:00 AM, and for riads deep in the medina it arranges a meeting point 5 to 10 minutes on foot from your door. On the tour we recommend, the exact time and place arrive by WhatsApp the evening before, between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM.
The road climbs straight into the High Atlas, the range that runs 740 km from the Atlantic to the Algerian border.2 The pass, Tizi n'Tichka, is 2,267 m high, and one day trip on the same road lists 80 minutes by van, a 30-minute break and 20 more minutes before the pass.1 On the far side the slopes turn bare, facing the hot, dry winds of the Sahara.3
The big stop of the day is Ait Ben Haddou, an earthen ksar on the southern slopes of the High Atlas that has been on the World Heritage List since 1987.45 The private-tent tour lists a visit of 2.5 hours there, and another reverse route allows 1.5 hours. Lunch is usually bought on the road and is not in the price of our recommended tour.

It lists 2.5 hours at the ksar, the longest of the stops here.
Out at 7:00 AM on day 1, back around 8:00 PM on day 3.
Breakfasts and dinners are included on both nights.
One operator warns its long driving days may not suit motion sickness.
It ends around 8:00 PM on day 3 at your hotel in Fes.
Still a military centre with a fortress, it is also an important oasis and road junction linked to Marrakech by way of n’Tichka Pass.
After Ait Ben Haddou the tours continue past Ouarzazate, the oasis and road junction that links the south to Marrakech by the Tichka pass.6 Where the first night falls depends on the tour. The private-tent tour stops 20 minutes at Kalaat M'Gouna and sleeps at Boumalne Dades. The food safari puts night 1 in a hotel in the Kelaa M'Gouna area, in a private room with its own bathroom.
The tour we recommend includes 1 night in an air-conditioned room or suite with a private bathroom, and dinner. Its record does not name the town, so ask your driver-guide on the first morning. The valley hotels on this route are simple and comfortable, built for travellers who arrive tired and leave early.
This is also the night to repack. Large suitcases stay in the vehicle for the desert, and you take only a small backpack onto the camel. Put a warm layer, a torch, toiletries, a power bank and a change of clothes in it tonight, and you will not have to dig through the van in the dark at the camp.

Day 2 runs east through the Dades valley. The private-tent tour lists a 40-minute visit to Tinghir and 20 minutes at the Todra River, with a 1-hour restaurant stop before Merzouga. Another round trip names the Dades Gorges and Tinejdad on the way. The Dades River itself runs 350 km through wild gorges to the Sahara.10
Seen from the other direction, the same stretch is spelled out leg by leg: from the dunes 40 minutes and then 2 hours to the Todra River, 50 minutes on to Boumalne Dades and 1.5 hours to Ouarzazate. Those legs give you the Marrakech to Merzouga driving time in pieces, before any photo stops or traffic; a 2-day trip that does the whole road in one go puts it at around 10 hours with stops for lunch and breaks.
You reach the edge of the sand in the late afternoon. Erg Chebbi is a dune field in southeastern Morocco near the Algerian border, and the tent camps stand on the east side of it.2122 On our recommended tour the way in is a camel ride or a 4x4 transfer, and sandboarding is included.
The ride out is short. The food safari lists a camel trek of 45 minutes and recommends long trousers; walking beside the caravan is allowed. The listing we recommend names a camel ride at sunset among its highlights, and dinner, Berber drumming and music are included at camp.
The camp grade decides your comfort. From November to February desert nights drop to 0 °C to 5 °C; standard tents have warm blankets but no heating, while luxury tents are heated. In summer the problem is the opposite: at Errachidia, the nearest climate station, July averages a daily high of 39.5 °C.23
Go to bed early. The sunrise ride starts before dawn, and the drive home is the longest stretch of the whole trip. If the sky is clear, step away from the camp lights for a few minutes first and let your eyes adjust to the dark: the stars over the sand are worth the cold.
The road time is the price of the dunes, but you can make it lighter. Sit where you can see out of the front window on the mountain bends, keep a bottle of water with you rather than in the boot, and use every break to walk for a few minutes. On the pass the private-tent tour lists a 20-minute break in the Atlas, and the reverse route stops 15 minutes at Tizi n'Tichka.
Carry a little cash in your pocket for the stops. Lunches, drinks and tips are not in the price of the tour we recommend, and its notes point out that there are no cash machines in the desert. Toilets at roadside cafes sometimes ask for a coin, and a small note makes the restaurant stop quicker.
Use the hours well. Download maps, music and a podcast in Marrakech, bring a charging cable that fits the vehicle socket or a power bank, and ask your driver-guide what you are passing: the valleys of the High Atlas hold small irrigated fields worked by Amazigh villages, and further south almost every settlement is an oasis.2425 Our recommended tour also lists onboard Wi-Fi.
The last morning is the one the trip is built around. The listing we recommend describes it simply: wake early for the sunrise, ride your camel back to the village, have breakfast, then drive back to Marrakech for drop-off at your hotel or riad. The food safari adds a climb up a dune for the sunrise before the ride back.
Then comes the long haul west. The reverse route shows how the hours stack up on the mountain side alone: 1.5 hours by van from Ait Ben Haddou towards the pass, 15 minutes at Tizi n'Tichka, then 2.5 hours down to Marrakech. The food safari lists its arrival back in Marrakech at around 8:00 PM.
Plan that evening as a rest. Book nothing for the night you return, eat close to your riad and keep the following morning free. A 3-day tour from Marrakech to Merzouga covers a lot of road for one night in the dunes, and it is easier to enjoy when you expect that from the start.
Your desert trip
Pick a date, get collected at your riad, and cancel free up to 24 hours before.
Early in the morning. One big seller starts at 7:00 AM on day 1; another lists pickup from 7:20.
In the evening. The food safari lists its return around 8:00 PM on day 3, after the long drive back over the Atlas.
In a hotel in the valleys. One tour sleeps at Boumalne Dades, another in the Kelaa M'Gouna area.
About 45 minutes on one tour. The food safari lists a 45-minute trek; another lists 45 to 60 minutes each way.
2,267 m at Tichka. Tichka is among the well-known passes of the High Atlas, the range you cross on the way out and again on the way back.1
No, it stays in the vehicle. Pack a small backpack for the desert night; camels cannot carry large luggage.
Not on our recommended tour. Breakfasts and dinners are included; lunch and drinks are paid on the road.
